  • A taper fade gradually shortens the hair from top to bottom, leaving some length at the lowest point. A skin fade takes that blend all the way down to the skin - creating a sharper, more dramatic contrast.

    At Gem City Barbers, we specialize in both. Your barber will walk you through the options and recommend the best fade style for your hair type, head shape, and how much maintenance you want between visits.

  • You can book an appointment through theCut app.

    4: Choose an available time slot.

  • Walk-ins are welcome when a barber has availability, but we strongly recommend booking through theCut. There's usually an opening the same day, but booking locks in your spot so you're not sitting around hoping for a gap.

  • We accept cash and all major payment methods. Tips are always appreciated!

  • Yes, free street parking is available along State Street and the surrounding blocks near Dobbins Landing. You'll almost always find a spot within a short walk of our shop!

  • Yes, and we recommend it! Each of our barbers has a distinct style, portfolio, and booking profile on theCut. Browse their work, find the barber whose style matches what you're going for, and book directly with them. If you're not sure who to pick, reach out to us, and we'll help match you!

  • For a skin fade, most clients come back every 2 to 3 weeks to keep the blend sharp. For a standard taper or scissor cut, 3 to 4 weeks is typical.

    If you're maintaining a beard lineup alongside your cut, a visit every 2 weeks keeps everything looking clean. Your barber can recommend a schedule based on your specific cut and how fast your hair grows.

  • The Big Chop Series showcases dramatic before-and-after hair transformations filmed right in the shop. It demonstrates our barbers' range, creativity, and ability to completely change a client's look in a single visit.

  • State Street between 2nd Street and the Bayfront Parkway is currently closed as part of the Bayfront Parkway Improvement Project. But don’t worry! Gem City Barbers is still open and easy to reach.

    From downtown, take Holland Street north to East Front Street, then head east to State Street. From the west side or Millcreek, use W. 12th Street (Route 5) east to Holland, then north.
